In the end we hope you will know about:
Tsunami’s
Volcanoes
Earthquakes
The Structure Of The Earth
Plate Tectonics
And The Pacific Ring Of Fire
• Where the Earths crust is thin or cracked,
magma flows up to the surface creating a
volcano.
• Volcanoes are usually mountains with a bowl in
the top called a crater.
• Most eruptions happen in the crater.
• Sometimes lava flows out through the vents to.
• When magma erupts from the ground its then
lava when it cools it becomes solid rock.
• What is a Tsunami?
• A long, high sea wave caused by an earthquake
or Tectonic plates.
• If a Tsunami is caused by Tectonic plates, one
tectonic plate overlaps another in a fast motion it
creates a Tsunami.
• If a Tsunami is approaching then go to high
places, if you are alarmed early then go and
catch a flight or other places that cant touch you.
• The strength or magnitude of an earthquake is
measured by scientists using a scale called the
‘Moment Magnitude Scale.
• A magnitude (one magnitude) can be predicted
by very sensitive equipment.
• Earthquakes can cause tsunamis because
earthquakes can go under the sea and send
vibrations up to the top and cause tsunamis.
• The best possible place to be hiding or to be
safe is under a table in a doorway.
• The Structure of the earth has a crust, a
mantle, outer core and inner core.
• The inner core is made out of iron and
Nickel with temperatures up to 5,500 c
• The outer core is made out of liquid and
also made out of iron and nickel.
• Mantle is approximately 2900km thick and
made out of iron and nickel.
• The crust is a thin layer between 0-60km.
