1. What components does the virus bring in at the time of infection? It brings in its reverse transcriptase and genome at the time of infection 2. Why do HIV patients succumb to simplistic infections? The HIV targets and ultimately destroys the CD4+ T-­‐‑helper cells and therefore cripples the immune system, which allows the patient to succumb to opportunistic infections. 3. Why are HIV patients given combination therapy? Combination therapy reduces the chances of emergence of drug resistant strains. 10
