Islamic Organizations Condemn All Acts of
Senseless Violence
Queens, NY, August 16, 2016:
We, of the Caribbean Muslim Community, strongly express
our horror and outrage at the recent murder of two Muslims—Imam Alauddin Akhanje
and his associate Thara Uddin in Ozone Park on Saturday, August 13.
Prophet Muhammad (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “The
example of the believers, in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion, is like a living
body. If a part of it complains, then the entire body responds to it in alertness…” In other
words, an attack against one of us is an attack against all of us. We absolutely condemn
all acts of wanton violence and killings done in the name of Islam, any other religion, or
cause here or elsewhere.
We stand firmly in solidarity with the Bengali Muslim community during this time of grief
and condemn this senseless killing in broad daylight. We offer our deepest condolences
to the bereaved families, sharing their trauma, fear, and mourning.
Lastly, we commend law enforcement agencies on their swift, efficient, and thorough
action and investigation of this horrendous double murder which led to an arrest
yesterday. We also greatly appreciate the tremendous support from all levels of
government for this case and at this critical time for Muslims nationwide.
