Important MUST KNOW keywords in Geometry Axiom: An Axiom is a statement accepted without a proof. Example: There is exactly one line through any two given points. Theorem: A theorem is a statement that can be shown to be true through the use of axioms and logical steps. Example: Thereom 6 - Each exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the interior opposite angles. Corollary: A corollary follows after a theorem and is a statement that has been proven and follows obviously from it. Example: Corollary 1 – A diagonal divides a parallelogram into two congruent triangles Converse of a Theorem: is the opposite or the reverse of a theorem. Example: In an isosceles triangle the angles opposite the equal sides are equal….Conversly, if two angles in a triangle are equal then the triangle is isosceles. False Converse: If a figure is a square, then it is a quadrilateral. Converse: If a figure is a quadrilateral then it’s a square (false). Implies: Implies means that when one result is established, another result follows logically from it. Symbol for implies =>
