Momentum and Energy Key Terms
Momentum|the product of the mass and velocity of an object. Impulse|the product of the force and the time over which the force acts on an object. Conservation of Momentum|the total momentum of all objects interacting with one another remains constant. Elastic collision|when two objects collide and return to their original shapes with no loss of total kinetic energy. Inelastic collision|when two objects collide and move together as one mass. Work|the product of a force and the displacement on an object. Kinetic Energy|energy of motion. Potential Energy|stored energy or energy of position. Mechanical Energy|the sum of the potential and kinetic energy. Conservation of Energy|energy cannot be created or destroyed, but can change its form. Machine|a device that transforms the direction or magnitude of a force. Mechanical Advantage|how much a machine multiplies your work. Efficiency|the ratio of useful work output to work input. Power|the rate of work done in a given amount of time.
