Born in Italy, but spent most of
professional life in Spain and
Portugal.
Most well known for his compositions
for harpsichord (more than 500).
Was maestro di cappella (leader of
the choir) at St. Peter’s Basilica in
Rome.
The folk tunes and dance rhythms of
the music of Spain influenced his
compositions.
Married twice and had a total of nine
children.
