Preparation of apparatus
Stimulation Of The Motor Points
MOTOR POINT:
“The point at which the main nerve enters the muscle,
or in the case of deeply placed muscles, at the point
where the muscle emerges from under cover of the
more superficial ones”
Stimulation Of The Motor Points
Advantage :
Stimulating individual muscle to produce contraction.
Indication :
 Training a new muscle action
 When isolation of one muscle indicated
 To re-educate muscle action
 Example:
 Vastus medialis stimulated in quadriceps lag
 Abductor hallucis in ms weakness

Technique of Stimulation Of The Motor Points
 Prepare apparatus and patient
 Indifferent electrode: at suitable area
 The active electrode :may be disc electrode and hold in
between the index finger, middle finger with the support of
the thumb.
Technique of Stimulation Of The Motor Points
 Electrode placed on the motor point to be stimulated firmly
 Advantage of firm contact:
 Firm contact ensure minimum discomfort.
 A suitable duration and frequency of surge must be selected.
 Gradually intensity of the current are increase for a visible
contraction followed by relaxation of the muscle
 Duration of the treatment



Pt. Can concentrate on the movement & assist in its production
Should not exceed to fatigue the muscles.
Fatigue occur less frequently with faradic
Sites of motor points
 Motor points are frequently present at junction of upper and
middle one-thirds of the fleshy belly of the muscle
 Deeply placed muscles are stimulated where they emerge
from beneath the more superficial ones
 Example:

EHL, in lower one third of the lower leg
Motor Point Of The Facial Nerve
Motor Points Of The Anterior Aspect Of Arm
Motor Point Of Hand
Motor Points Of Posterior Aspect Of The Right Arm
Motor Points Of Posterior Aspect Of The Right Hand
Motor Points Of Anterior Aspect Of The Leg
Motor Points Of Posterior Aspect Of The Leg
MOTOR POINTS OF THE BACK
Stimulation Of The Group Of Muscles
 Stimulation which makes all the muscles of a group work
together is a satisfactory method of re-educating the action of
a muscle.



Quadriceps,
small muscles of the foot
muscles of the pelvic floor.
