BACKGROUND
MPS has developed a strategy to deliver a range of educational and risk management
services to healthcare professionals in each of our major markets across the world. MPS
Educational Services deliver a range of products including structured risk assessments,
workshops, and online learning modules.
MPS is the leading provider of comprehensive professional indemnity and expert advice to
doctors, dentists and health professionals around the world. It is a mutual, not-for-profit
organisation offering more than 300,000 members help with legal and ethical problems that
arise from their professional practice.
Based within the Commercial department, the postholder will assist the Commercial
Development Manager in the marketing of MPS Education and Risk Management services.
PURPOSE - Please summarise the main role and objective(s) for which the job exists.

To assist the Commercial Development Manager–in the delivery of the marketing
plans for MPS education and risk management in the UK, Ireland and South Africa.

To take responsibility for aspects of the MPS Education and Risk Management
marketing plan under the direction of the Commercial Development Manager.

To monitor and analyse activity providing recommendations for improvement/
opportunities.

To contribute to the development of future marketing plans.
KEY RESULTS AREAS - What essential end results have to be achieved in order to meet
the requirements of the job?

Achieve agreed targets for the delivery of educational and risk management
activities.

Support in the implementation of the MPS Education and Risk Management
marketing plan, as well as overall plans for the Commercial Development team.

Coordinate on and offline marketing campaigns ensuring they are delivered on time
and to budget. Analyse and report results and make recommendations to improve
the effectiveness of campaigns.

Write copy and produce promotional literature that effectively markets Educational
Services products and the MPS ‘Medical Protection’ and ‘Dental Protection’ brands

Have an understanding of the current products and markets to identify future
potential. Ensuring that market knowledge is up to date within the healthcare sector.

Maintain and monitor MPS Education and Risk Management’s online presence,
including the E-learning platform, web pages and online campaigns.

Make recommendations for market research.

Establish and maintain relationships with internal colleagues across departments and
external suppliers.

Assist the Commercial Development Manager in identifying and managing
commercial opportunities.
TYPICAL TASKS & PROBLEMS
 Liaise with internal and external suppliers including mailing houses, marketing and
market research agencies.

Effectively coordinate a variety of projects across the healthcare market.

Write copy for campaigns, publications and print material.

Coordinate the production of marketing and other supporting literature.

Collect and analyse data to measure activity, providing recommendations based on
findings.

Support colleagues across the organisation and external parties in the effective
promotion of MPS Education and Risk Management and its products.

Represent MPS Education and Risk Management internally as well as externally at
meetings, conferences and events. This may include overnight stays.

Liaise with internal departments to create awareness of Educational Services activity.

Ensure MPS benefits from the promotion of MPS Educational Services.

Provide additional assistance to the Commercial Development Manager as required.
KNOWLEDGE - What knowledge and experience is it necessary to have to achieve the job’s
key results?

Experience and knowledge of the theory and principles of on and offline marketing
and the ability to apply these to MPS’ educational strategy.

Specific knowledge of direct marketing.

Knowledge of the functions of databases and their use in mail merges, data storage,
retrieval and reporting.

Experience in managing busy workloads.
DECISION MAKING - What decisions have to be made to achieve the key results, and what
has to be recommended?
The postholder will need to be able to prioritise work and allocate resources appropriately.
They will need to be sufficiently reflective and flexible to assimilate the lessons learned from
any of their marketing campaigns in order to improve effectiveness.
