Control in Space Closure - Principles,
Mechanics, and Clinical Management
Aarhus School of Dentistry, 7 November 2015
Content of the Course
Speakers Stefano Troiani & Morten G. Laursen
Curriculum Vitae
A basic but challenging task in orthodontic treatment is control during space closure.
The aim is predictability and efficiency in mechanics combined with long-term stability and maintainability in results.
Stefano Troiani
How is the anchorage planned and managed in order to place the incisors correctly in
the face and the alveolar bone with a concurrent coordination of the mandibular and
maxillary arches? Many pitfalls during space closure can be avoided by following few
guidelines. Should spaces be closed on a sectional wire or is continuous wire always
the preferred approach? Can one orthodontic system be applied to solve any case or
is it advantageous to combine techniques?
The course is aimed at Specialists in Orthodontics and Postgraduate Students in Orthodontics.
The speakers will focus on planning, biomechanical considerations and clinical management during space closure.
Stefano Troiani graduated at the University of
Aarhus (DK) orthodontic program and received his
MSc in Orthodontics in 2003. He has maintained
a private practice in Denmark since 2003 and in
Germany since 2008. He has worked as Clinical
Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Orthodontics of
the University of Aarhus from 2005 to 2007. He has
been the scientific director of the Alpe Adria Face
Master held at the university of Graz, Ljubljana
and Zagreb in 2012-2013. He has been consultant
orthodontist at the department of maxillo-facial
surgery of the hospital of Sønderborg (Denmark)
from 2008 to 2009. He is consultant orthodontist
at the department of maxillo-facial surgery of the
university hospital of Odense (Denmark) from 2008
to present.

Morten Godtfredsen Laursen
Morten G. Laursen received his dental degree
from Aarhus University, Denmark in 2001. He qualified as a specialist in orthodontics in 2007 after
attending the international postgraduate program
in orthodontics at Aarhus University. Since 2007
dr. Laursen is part time employed at the Section
of Orthodontics, Aarhus University, where he has
been teaching pre- and post-graduate students,
treating patients and performing research on the
dento-alveolar-bone-complex in relation to limitations of the alveolar bony housing and insertion
of mini-implants. He co-owns a private orthodontic office in Aarhus, Denmark and is employed
in the public orthodontic service in Silkeborg,
Denmark. Dr. Laursen has lectured in international orthodontic courses since 2006.
