Ancient Egypt The Great Pyramid of Giza was the tallest standing structures for 4,500 years and is still standing today! It is the only great wonder of the world that hasn’t been destroyed. 4,000 people worked on it at different times and it still took 20 years to build. The Great Pyramid of Giza was used as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu. It was built in 2585 BCE (before common era). The Great Pyramid of Giza was built by hundreds of ancient Egyptian labors that were under the command of Pharaoh Khufu. The Great Pyramid of Giza shows that ancient Egypt was one of the worlds greatest civilization by having three of seven characteristic of a civilization, advances in technology, a religious system, and the arts. Ancient Egyptians had the civilization trait, advances in technology because there is evidence that they used tools and ramps to build The Great Pyramid of Giza and sledges and boats to transport it it which helps prove that ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilization ever. Ancient Egyptians used simple tools to build The Great Pyramid of Giza. Evidence shows that stonecutters used drills and saws to create the granite blocks that was used to build The Great Pyramid of Giza. They transported the granite blocks by using boats and sledges. First they used sledges to move the blocks to the boats along the Nile that takes them to Giza. They used ramps to get the blocks up the pyramid. They got the blocks up the pyramid by using ramps that go around the it or sometimes straight up the pyramid. If ancient Egyptians never had advances in technology then it would have been impossible to build The Great Pyramid of Giza. Religion in The Great Pyramid of Giza helps show that ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations ever. The sarcophagus that they put the mummies was a reason that The Great Pyramid of Giza was proof that they had religion. They made the sarcophagus to look like the person so that the ka (the spirit) could recognize their body to go to the afterlife. One of the reasons that Great Pyramid of Giza proves that they had religion was they had tombs. Tombs were used as a passageway to the afterlife and they were filled with everything they needed for the afterlife including a book on what they do and not do in the afterlife. Ancient Egyptians believed that their pharaoh was a living god on earth to keep ma’at (order) in balance which proves they had religion. If the tomb did not lead the pharaoh to the afterlife then ma’at would be out of balance which would lead to the Nile not flooding which would leave them with no food and they would all die. All of these things proves that ancient Egypt had a important civilization trait, religion. Arts in The Great Pyramid of Giza helps show that ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations ever. The death mask helps prove that ancient Egyptians had art. The death mask was the face of the sarcophagus that pharaohs were buried. Architecture helps prove that ancient Egyptians had art. Ancient Egyptians had articulture because they used shapes to create The Great Pyramid of Giza and other buildings or palaces. Tut’s Tomb helps prove that ancient Egyptians had art. Tut’s Tomb was used to please Osiris so ma’at (order) would not be out of balance. The arts certainly helps prove that ancient Egyptians was one of the greatest civilizations. The Great Pyramid of Giza clearly shows that ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations ever. They had art because they had articulture, the death mask, and Tut’s Tomb. They had religion because they had ma’at and gods (order), the sarcophagus, and tombs plus an afterlife. Only one out of seven traits of a civilization would create a civilization, but all seven and mainly these three would make one of the greatest civilization ever. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the perfect example of why ancient Egypt was one of the greatest civilization ever. Bibliography Bleiberg, Edward. "Technology and Engineering: Building the Pyramids."
