Every$1spentontourisminAfrica,generates$3ormoreintangential
sectors.Travelandtourism’simpactontheeconomicandsocial
developmentofacountrycanbeenormous.In2012,receiptsfromhotels,
toursandotherattractionsamountedtoover$36billionanddirectly
contributedto2.8percentofAfrica’sGDP.Inlessthantwoyears,this
figureincreasedby21percent,recording$43.6billioninrevenuein2014
(WTTC,2013).
WHOSHOULDATTEND:
2017hasbeendesignatedthe“InternationalYearofSustainableTourism
forDevelopment”bytheUnitedNations.Thisdesignationishighly
significant,notonlyforhighlightingtheimportanceofthissector,butalso
forpromotingbusinessandinvestmentopportunitiesaroundtourismand
intersectingsectorssuchasinfrastructure,ICT,health,realestate
development,capacitybuildingandfinance.

Ontheeveoftheinternationalyearoftourism,TheCorporateCouncilon
Africa(CCA)andAfricaTravelAssociation(ATA)areproudtopresentthe
41stAnnualWorldTourismConferenceinKigali,Rwanda.Incollaboration
withtheRwandaDevelopmentBoard,CCAandATAdesignedthis
conferencetosetthetoneforhowtourismcanbeutilizedasanenginefor
economicgrowthandjobcreationthroughinnovativebusinessmodels,
newtechnologiesandstrategicpartnerships.Theconferencewillalso
provideaplatformtonetworkandexplorenewtourismmarketsand
productsincludingthepromotionandpreservationofAfrica’srichcultural
