The Greeks were outnumbered 4 to 1. The Persians were the
largest, most sophisticated empire the world had yet seen.

Phidias’ Acropolis
The Acropolis (Hill-city in Greek) was and is the center of
Athens. After defeating the Persians Athens got one of
the most expensive makeovers the world has ever seen!

The Parthenon
Built of gleaming white marble that was actually painted
over, this is one of the most important buildings in the
world. It has influenced countless other buildings and
builders. The Athenians demonstrated both their civic
pride and understanding of advanced engineering in its
construction. It was a temple to the city’s patron goddess
and namesake Athena.
The Ancient Olympics:
Athletes & Trainers
Male athletes represented their city-states and competed
in different sporting events. The prize was a laurel crown;
never money! Glory for his city-state would follow him
forever.
