Invasive Species • How well are we doing with invasive species in the Great Lakes ecosystem? 3. Habitat Loss • How well are we doing with habitat loss in the Great Lakes ecosystem? Debate Procedure Pollution – Boosters first, then Doomers, then Boosters, then Doomers, etc… Invasive Species – Doomers first, then Boosters, then Doomers, then Boosters, etc… Habitat Loss – Boosters first, then Doomers, then Boosters, then Doomers, etc… Final comments – Doomers, Boosters, Doomers, Boosters If you want to speak • Stand up and hold one of your speaking cards • If you get called on, you may speak – I will call on people who haven’t spoken yet first – if you have something good, be patient – When you are speaking, you may speak as long as you’d like – When you are finished speaking, the other side gets to speak before anyone on your team can speak When can I speak? • Whenever you have something good to say, stand up with one of your speaking cards – You do not have to wait for your group’s topic • If you are “habitat loss,” and you have something good to say about “pollution,” jump up and say it • If your team loses “pollution,” you want to help your team win “invasive species!” Speak up! • As long as you have speaking cards, you may speak whenever you’d like (if you get called on) How I am moderating the debate • • • • I will introduce the topics I will call on students to speak I will make sure we are taking turns I will decide to move us along if we seem to be going too slow • I will score the arguments – At the end of “pollution,” one team will get a point – At the end of “invasive species,” one team will get a point – At the end of “habitat loss,” one team will get a point • The team that gets 2 of the 3 possible points wins Grades?
