Year 7 RE Summer Assessment
Extended writing task: Year 7’s Dummies guide to Hinduism.
Imagine you have been asked to create a detailed account of what you have learnt about Hinduism for next year’s

question you are answering is: what does it mean to be a Hindu?
We recommend the following to help you do this assessment properly:
1) Planning your piece of writing (10 minutes)
Bullet point or mind-map your plan in the back of your book. Here is a list of things to consider:

How will you layout your work?
How will you make sure Year 7’s understand what you are writing about?

I can explain the meaning and importance of certain Hindu practices including pilgrimage and
worship.
I can show an understanding of how Hindu beliefs affect the way they live their lives. Such as
what Hindus gain by going on pilgrimage as well as what Hindus gain from praying to certain
gods.
I can show some understanding of the how Hindus practices help a Hindu to try and become
closer to Brahman. For example, how going on pilgrimage may help a Hindu become closer to
God.
I can suggest reasons why Hindus try to get closer to Brahman in their daily lives. For example,
what Hindus are trying to achieve and why.
I can analyse how believing in Brahman brings truth, meaning and value to a Hindu’s life.
