Mobile web programming
Open Projects
The objective is two fold:
a. to test your comprehension of mobile friendly internet and mobile programming
technologies
b. to develop an application or service.
It is not adequate to prepare components that just basically satisfy the minimum
conditions stated. Projects should meet a particular need, take advantage of an
opportunity or address a challenge. Ideally, the product or service developed should be
potentially viable commercially, or be socially responsible. The product must be tested by
users before submission.
At a minimum, the project must make use of the following technologies
 Mobile Friendly web technologies –the product/service must interact with an
online component.
 An SMS component. This could be by means of a web based content aggregator,
an SMS gateway application, etc
 A mobile application:
 a smart phone (S60, Android, etc)
 a J2ME version.
 A fancy application that makes use of a UI framework for beauty.
The functionality of the three versions of the mobile application need not be identical.
Deliverables:
 A project proposal: this briefly but clearly explains what your project seeks to
achieve. Clearly list the features that the product/service will provide.
 The product/service (submitted, deployed, and tested)
 Product demonstration/presentation
