9-10
Technique
Lack of accuracy in
pitch, articulation,
precision.
Demonstrates basic
knowledge but
consistent major
errors
Tone production is
of a quality that
hinders from the
performance
Tone is full, rich,
and characteristic in
all registers
Interpretation
Lack of control of
tempo, phrasing,
and expression that
hinders the piece
Tone has several
flaws in basic
production
(consistently
thin/unfocused or
forced sound)
Major errors in
control of tempo,
phrasing, and
expression
Almost
demonstrates
mastery level in
piece. Minor
inconsistencies –
rarely distracting
Tone is clear in
most areas with
occasional lapses
Demonstrates
complete mastery
of the demands of
the music

Rhythm
Rhythms are
consistently
performed
incorrectly; clarity
essentially nonexistent
Many rhythms
performed
incorrectly or
inconsistently,
major errors
present
Most rhythm
patterns are
accurate, but errors
in precision are
present
Rhythms are nearly
accurate;
occasionally,
rhythms lack

interpretation
Rhythms are

Basic sense of
intonation is
evident, yet major
errors occur. Little
attempt to adjust
pitch
Dynamics
Dynamics are
consistently
performed

knowledge of
articulation. Most
passages are

unclear
