Founded in 1957, The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) is an international organization of professionals dedicated to the advancement of sexual
knowledge. The Society publishes The Journal of Sex Research, the Annual Review of Sex Research, Sexual Science: The Society Newsletter, and a public
information brochure series titled, "What Sexual Scientists Know About.…" The Society also sponsors programs to reward research excellence and holds an
Annual Congress and Regional Conferences to promote interdisciplinary cooperation among researchers, educators, and clinicians.

*NOTE TO ALL PRESENTERS: All congress presenters must pre-register for the conference by SEPTEMBER 15, 2009, or
their presentation may be cancelled and not appear in the Final Program.
PROGRAM/CONGRESS REGISTRATION: Our online registration is available.
To take advantage of reduced congress registration fees, make sure that you have your registration form and payment
postmarked no later than October 1, 2008. On-site registration, which is at a higher cost than advanced registration, will be
available during the times noted in this Program. Please note that on-site registration for SAR, Pre or Post-Conference CE
Workshops cannot be guaranteed.
HOTEL REGISTRATION: The Westin Puerto Vallarta has online registration at http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/book/ssss
and registration by call-in. From the US and Canada the number is 1-800-937-8461. You should specifically request the SSSS
meeting. Use the code SSS04NOV09. The hotel special rate of $159 per room per night for two double beds or a king bed is
guaranteed only as long as the SSSS hotel block is open. Once that block is sold out, rates will be higher. We recommend
booking your hotel immediately. The hotel will take up to three adults per room.

PASSPORTS AND TRAVEL INFORMATION: Unless you are a resident of Mexico, please make sure that your passport is
current and you are ready to cross the border. You are welcome to bring personal items, your laptop, etc. Please make sure that
you do not bring sexually explicit materials with you, and you do not bring any items to sell. SSSS is providing informational item
sharing opportunities at the Congress. Those materials must be arranged in advance, and shipped into Mexico in advance,
through our shipping arrangements. Please see Informational Exhibits for more information. When you arrive at the airport, be
prepared to be photographed. You are entering the country as a tourist. Once you go through the photographing and baggage
scanning process, we recommend that you exchange your money for pesos, unless you have already done so. Once you leave
the airport, exchange rates are usually higher elsewhere. The hotel does not have an ATM machine for you to get cash. The
airport has many people in it who are paid to get you to go to hotel waiting areas, to try to get you to go to see timeshares,
condos, etc. Walk past them. Do not feel obligated to talk to them at all. There are two exiting rooms you should walk through.
Then, you should be outside. At that time, walk to the right of the airport, to the cab waiting area, and take a cab. You do not need
to negotiate. The cabs are a flat rate to the hotel that will depend on the number of people in your party and your baggage.
When you arrive and check-in at the Westin, make sure that you fill out the appropriate forms with them so that you are not
paying taxes. Also make sure that they have your up-to-date contact information and have properly listed any people who you are
sharing a room with. The hotel allows a maximum of three adults per room. You can get a limited amount of cash from the hotel
front desk. The hotel will take credit cards for registration and for their restaurants. The hotel uses standard AC/DC in the rooms,
and you will not need a special adapter if you have standard US electric plugs.
INFORMATIONAL EXHIBITS: Information of interest to researchers, sexuality educators, therapists, and scientists will be
presented as part of the congress exhibits display on Friday and Saturday. Due to limited space, authors may not bring items to
exhibit unless prior arrangements are made. SSSS will not pay hotel fees or return shipping fees on any exhibits. The Society
does not endorse any of the publications, services, or products exhibited. Exhibits will be located in the Siqueiros room.
FEE REMISSION FOR STUDENT MEMBER VOLUNTEERS: Student members of SSSS may receive all or partial remission
of registration fees by providing work service during the congress. Student volunteers will be wearing the Student Ambassador
name badge ribbon.
REFUND POLICY: If you must cancel your Congress registration, you need to send a letter to SSSS notifying us. If the
letter is received by October 1, 2009, your full registration will be refunded. If the letter is received between October 2 and
October 31, 2009, a $50 administrative fee will be charged. Refunds will not be made if you cancel your registration after
November 1, 2009.

3 2009 Annual Congress Sexual Literacy: Health and Rights in Cultural Context SHARED HOUSING OPTIONS: If you wish to share a room you should check the space provided on the registration form. Your
name, address, phone number and email will be added to the list. The list is then sent to all registrants indicating a desire to
share a room. This service will be available only until the close of early registration on October 1, 2009. It is your responsibility to
contact others and make hotel reservations. SSSS does not assume any liability in sharing this information.
ACCESSIBILITY AND THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT: The Westin Hotel, being in Mexico, is not subject to the
Americans with Disabilities Act. While, SSSS strives to provide accessibility for our members, it is up to you to contact the hotel
directly if you have any disability needs. If, as a presenter, you have special needs, you must contact SSSS office by October 1,
2009, to make appropriate arrangements.
AUDIO VISUALS: SSSS will provide, at no additional charge, an LCD projector, screen or whiteboard, and electrical hookup,
during the regular program to presenters who requested them on their proposal sheets. If volume is needed for presentation,
presenter must bring their own speakers for hookup to computer. Presenters are responsible for providing their own,
presentations, and laptops. Presenters using audio visual equipment are requested to arrive at their sessions at least 15 minutes
in advance of the start of the session to set up the equipment and verify it is functional. Presenters will have to separately pay the
hotel AV company for any late additional AV, assuming it is available. The Society assumes no liability for any AV equipment that
we obtain for the program or that the presenter obtains or brings to the program.
EXPLICIT MATERIALS NOTICE: What is presented and discussed at this program may be explicitly sexual in nature and may
be offensive to some. The Society assumes that the registrant is of legal age and accepts responsibility to leave any session that
is found to be offensive. The Society also assumes that no registrant will bring underage minors to any meeting functions or the
exhibits area. The Society does not assume any responsibility for what is presented or discussed.
CHILD CARE: There is a childcare agency available through the Westin hotel. Contact the hotel in advance of the congress.
THE FOUNDATION FOR THE SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF SEXUALITY (FSSS): The Foundation was created by The Society for
the purpose of stimulating and supporting sex research. The primary goal of FSSS is to make available a perpetual pool of funds
to accomplish its purpose.
Student Opportunities at SSSS Annual Meeting

On Thursday, November 5, 12-3 pm, students have an opportunity to attend a pre-conference learning session on
publishing sex research, especially in the Journal of Sex Research. This is free for student members of SSSS.
On Thursday, November 5th, from 3:15 until 4:15 pm, students have an opportunity to attend a session that orients you to
the program, to how the program works, and to give you a chance to meet others before the learning adventure really
begins.
There will be a Student Luncheon from 12-2 PM on Friday, November 6th. Students will be given the opportunity to mingle
with past SSSS Presidents and other SSSS Students! This luncheon is often a great opportunity to network with
professionals and other students. This luncheon is paid for as part of your full registration, and is supported by Adam and
Eve.
On Friday, November 6th, from 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm; there is a special student session for students to have a student
meeting, further network, have special research interest gatherings, and provide support for each other. Juarez room.
Friday, after the Student Research Session (7:15 pm to 8:15 pm), there will be a special student Meeting and social cosponsored by National Sexuality Resource Center and Widener University. Location: Juarez
On Saturday November 7, from 11:15 am until Noon, there is an awards session. Students have the opportunity to not only
see awards given to prestigious people in the field, but also to see some students receive awards.
Throughout the entire conference, there will be exhibitors present from different sexuality programs. Feel free to ask them
any questions you may have about their programs as they be available to meet with you.

The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality is an international organization dedicated to the advancement of
knowledge about sexuality. The Society brings together an interdisciplinary group of professionals who believe in the
importance of both the production of quality research and the clinical, educational, and social applications of research
related to all aspects of sexuality.
In 1957, The Society was founded to encourage rigorous systematic investigation of sexuality. The early 20th
century had produced phenomenal growth in scientific understanding; however, similar gains were not being made in
understanding sexuality, with knowledge often mixed with misunderstanding and confusion. Through interdisciplinary
cooperation, The Society continued to support the study of sexuality as a valid area of research by the scientific
community.
A strength of The Society is the range of disciplines represented by its members, conference participants, and
journal authors. A broad interdisciplinary perspective is insured by dialogue and research contributions from biologists,
physicians, nurses, therapists, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, historians, educators, and theologians.

SSSS Membership Benefits
In addition to participation in regional activities, and reduced conference fees, members receive: The Annual
Review of Sex Research, The Journal of Sex Research, a scientific quarterly; Sexual Science, The Society's
newsletter that gives information about The Society and related activities of interest; and The Membership
Directory, a yearly directory of the membership. There are members-only, and a student-members only
listserves.
Discounts are available for regional, annual, and affiliates’ meetings. Your membership in SSSS actively
supports The Society's work in advancing knowledge about sexuality, rewarding research excellence, and
promoting freedom of inquiry for researchers.
Eligibility for Membership
Membership is limited to applicants who have demonstrated an active professional commitment to the
advancement of knowledge about sexuality. Applications are reviewed by the Membership Committee to
determine eligibility; additional information may be requested.
If an applicant is accepted, membership becomes effective with payment of dues. Membership is paid on a
calendar year basis only. After October 1, all membership dues paid will be applied to the next calendar year.
Categories of Membership
Member--must have an advanced degree in the area of expertise
Couple--a reduced-fee category for couple members who receive one copy of each mailing
Retired—a reduced-fee category for professionals who have greatly reduced their professional activities due to
retirement.
Associate--must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant academic discipline
Student--undergraduate and graduate students must be enrolled in a college or university program in a relevant
discipline. Student Memberships are available with or without journals. Student members are eligible for
student research grants and various awards at SSSS programs.
There will be a new category of membership for 2010 for new graduates & doctorates that have finished
school are transitioning to the work force. Further information will be available on the SSSS website shortly.

CERTIFICATES OF ATTENDANCE: If you complete the paperwork, SSSS will issue you a Certificate of Attendance for the
conference program. The Certificate of Attendance is awarded, at no additional cost, for attendance only and does not imply
evaluation of learning.
CE INTENT: CE is intended to meet the needs of professionals with terminal degrees. Anyone from the press is allowed to
attend CE session(s) only with permission of the CE Director, and the presenter(s). SSSS maintains the right to refuse
admission to anyone whom we deem unqualified to attend. It is the professional's responsibility to determine the acceptability
of these programs for specific licensure or certification needs. Anyone arriving 10 minutes or more late for the start of a CE
session will not earn CE. Contact the SSSS office for information about refunds and other CE policies.
PRECONFERENCE CE: These sessions require full payment by the advance registration deadline. Even if you are not
earning CE, you need to pre-register if you are going to attend any Preconference CE session
