A RESOLUTION requesting that the Congress of the United States support funding
for the United States Coast Guard "Deepwater Project."
WHEREAS, the United States Coast Guard was founded in 1790 as part of the
Department of Treasury, and is now part of the Department of Transportation, protecting
United States interests at home, and in peacetime and during war, the Coast Guard is at
work 365 days a year, patrolling shores, saving lives, protecting property, and enhancing
the flow of commerce; and
WHEREAS, from helping the victims of floods and storms, to keeping millions of
dollars worth of illegal drugs from flooding American communities by restraining drug
traffickers, enforcing fisheries legislation, controlling alien migration at sea, to teaching
boating safety and cleaning up oil spills, the United States Coast Guard is, like its motto,
Semper Paratus, Always Ready; and
WHEREAS, the United States Coast Guard "Deepwater Project" was initiated to
address the need to upgrade, modernize, and replace its aging fleet of cutters and aircraft,
as well as its command-and-control infrastructure with an integrated system of shoreside,
afloat, aviation, and information-technology assets; and without these improvements, the
Coast Guard will be unable to meet its operational requirements; and
WHEREAS, the United States Coast Guard is faced with a major funding challenge
for the "Deepwater Project," funding that is critical to the security of the United States;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the
Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1.
The House of Representatives does hereby applaud the United States
Coast Guard for over two hundred years of committed and faithful service to our nation.
We request that the United States Congress support funding for the U.S. Coast Guard
"Deepwater Project."
Section 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit
