CDR DICOM server recommended system requirements.
¾ A Dedicated Server with one of the following operating systems (For offices with less than 10
DICOM Workstations, Schick recommends Windows 2000 Pro, or Windows XP Pro. For offices
with 10 or more DICOM workstations, Schick recommends Windows 2000 Server, Windows
2000 Advanced Server or Windows 2003 Server) – Note: Windows 98SE is not a suitable server
environment.

¾ Minimum of 20 GB of hard drive space (Size will vary due to the volume of x-rays taken. See
file sizes below to determine the proper size require for your office.)
Should I uninstall my current version of CDR?
It is highly advisable to NOT uninstall your current version of CDR software if your current version is
CDR 2.6, until you are comfortable using CDR DICOM for Windows. The two programs can be resident
without any risk. If you have a CDRPan retrofit system, do not uninstall 2.6 software. Contact Technical
Support for more information on installing a CDRPan retrofit system with CDR Dicom for Windows.
If you are currently running a previous version of CDR DICOM you must uninstall it.

Should I complete a back-up of my images before running the conversion utility?
As with the installation of any new or updated software, we highly recommend that you complete an
exhaustive back up of your image data before performing the installation of CDR DICOM for Windows
and conversion of your images. Additionally, Schick advocates that you perform a regular back up of
your data to mitigate against any unforeseen contingencies as you are solely responsible for your
patient data for a number of years 1 .

Should I rebuild the database before running the conversion process?
If you are currently running CDR 2.6 we highly recommend performing a database integrity check (aka
rebuild) before proceeding with the DFW conversion process. This rebuild will help alleviate any existing
database errors and decrease the likelihood of you encountering any data discrepancies during the DFW
conversion process. If you are currently running a previous version of CDR DICOM it is not necessary to
perform any database maintenance.
Conversion Issues (Non-DICOM Users)

Can I convert images from versions of CDR earlier then CDR 2.6?
No, conversion will not work from any version other than CDR 2.6. If you are using an earlier version
of CDR, you will need to upgrade to CDR 2.6 before converting images to CDR DICOM for Windows.

How long will the conversion take?
Generally speaking, converting images from prior versions of CDR to the DICOM format takes
approximately two seconds per image. With newer machines, it can be as fast as one second per
image, while with older machines, it can be as slow as three seconds per image. An estimated
conversion time will be displayed at the start of the conversion process.

Can I interrupt a conversion?
The conversion process can be interrupted at any time. Once restarted, the conversion program will
start where it left off. Furthermore, the images already converted will not require conversion again.
The amount of time that patient images/data needs to be held varies from state to state.

Can I do partial conversions? And if so, what kind?
Yes, partial conversions (by date or alphabetical range) can be run instead of a full conversion. Please
contact Schick if you would like guidance on performing a partial conversion.

How much space will I require to convert images?
The space required is dependent on the size of the current CDR\XRAYS folder. Example: If the “xrays”
folder is currently 2 gigabytes 2,000,000,000, then the free hard drive space recommended for
conversion is 2.5 gigabytes. If the images are compressed we recommend that you chose the 5:1 Jpeg
compression (medium quality), when converting images.

How can I determine if I have enough space?
To determine the size of the “xrays” folder perform the following task:
1. Right click on the “Start button” and then left click “Explore”
2. Scroll up on the left side to the “CDR” folder and left click the “+” sign next to the folder. This
will display several folders including the “xrays” folder.
3. Right click on the x-rays folder and left click on “properties”. This will display the size of the xrays folder (This procedure may take several seconds to display the total size).
Then to determine the free space on your harddrive:
1. Right click on the “Start button” and then left click “Explore”
2. Scroll up on the left side to the “C:” folder (or the drive that contains the x-rays)
3. Right click on the drive and left click on “properties”.
4. If the images are compressed you will need “free space” to be at least four times that of the
space required for the x-ray images.
Network Issues
•
Is my computer configured correctly for CDR DICOM for Windows?
The network is required to have the protocol TCP/IP. This protocol is also used for Internet access. If
you have Internet Access (i.e. with Dial-up, cable, DSL etc.), then you may have TCP/IP set up for that
access, but not for the internal network. Contact your Network Technician or Schick Technologies tech
support to determine if TCP/IP is set up for your internal network.

What do I do if I do not have TCP/IP?
Contact your Network Technician to enable this protocol for your internal network.
•
What can I do if I have an always on Internet Connection (i.e. with a ”firewall” and/or routers) and /or
Wan connection.
The firewall and/or router may restrict access of the CDR DICOM for Windows Server ports from your
workstations. Have your Network Administrator or Network Technician contact Schick Technologies for
the proper configuration for your network.
Installation Issues

Why won’t CDR DICOM for Windows accept the product key that I enter?
The product key must be entered in all capitals and include the indicated dashes. The fields for “Name”
and “Company” must also be filled in. If the key continues not to be accepted, contact Schick
Technologies Technical Support.

Panoramic Issues
•
Why can’t I acquire panoramic images after I have installed CDR DICOM for Windows?
The calibration file for the panoramic system, may need to be copied to the CDR DICOM for Windows
folder. Call Schick Technologies Technical Support for assistance in configuring the software for
panoramic acquisition and copying the required file.
Printer Issues
•
Are there printers that will not work with this software?
The Sony UPD-860, UPD-890, Fargo Foto Fun and Fargo Primera Pro printers are not supported.
