AP World History Summer Work:
Part 1 – 50%
Reading and Note taking:
Read the following chapters from the online textbook resource and take your own detailed
notes on one chapter. I will collect notes the first day of class. There will also be a test during
the first week of class that I will allow you to use your notes for. Focus on main ideas rather
than random facts. Use the following guidelines to aid note taking:
 Avoid word for word narratives or copying of sentences
 Focus on Main ideas that emerge from the text
o Big ideas rather than nuanced details are what is most important. Focus on the
forest rather than the trees
 Use the glossary provided to look up words that are unknown
 Use an outline, cornell, or any other note taking format you are comfortable with

Part 2 – 50 %
Video Assignment:
There are a series of ten to twelve minute videos on World History at the following web site:
They can be linked at https://www.khanacademy.org/partner-content/crash-course1/crash-courseworld-history
Watch videos #1 through #4 (The Agricultural Revolution, Indus river Valley Civilization, Ancient
Mesopotamia, and Ancient Egypt). For each video complete a separate page of notes. These too will be
collected on the first page and main concepts will be tested over. Make sure each page of notes has the
video title and number at the top.
