BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
October 28, 2016
Introduction
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. It is estimated that more than 1.7
million new cases of breast cancer occurred in 2012 worldwide (World Health Organization
(WHO). GLOBOCAN 2012).
A healthy diet and exercise routine can reduce your chance for breast cancer by nearly 40%.
When caught early, breast cancer has a 98% survival rate.
Nearly 85% of women diagnosed with breast cancer DO NOT have a family history.
Pink ribbon
A pink ribbon brings awareness to Breast Cancer. It advocates for support and hope to breast
cancer survivors, patients and their families and friends.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower women with breast cancer to share their stories, helping themselves
and others learn from their unique experiences, and to be better advocates for their treatment and
recovery.
Women within our community need support after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Family
members also need our support when their loved ones are diagnosed with any sort of cancer.
Objective
To create awareness and support for cancer patients within our communitiesfor the year 2016
through a one day seminar which will help to bring forth patients, survivors and healthcare
providers toexplore, identify the burden of breast cancer in our communities and to worktoward
its eradication, and to create a healthier environment for ourselves, our children, and our
grandchildren.
