Honors Geometry
Test 1 Topics
I. Definitions and undefined terms
A.
Know which terms are the three undefined terms
B.
Definitions in Topic 1 up through “angle” and “vertex of an angle” on page 6
(You might especially want to look at opposite rays, space, vertex, and midpoint)
II. Notation and naming
A.
Notation for point, line, and plane
B.
Appropriate names for line segments, rays, length of a line segment, congruent
segments, and angles
III. Drawings
A.
Be able to use isometric paper and blank paper
B.
Draw vertical planes, horizontal planes, parallel planes, parallel lines, skew lines,
prisms, and pyramids
C.
Remember that drawings are not constructions…..and constructions are not on
this test.
IV. Lengths
A.
Measuring segments with the Ruler Postulate (how to use a ruler)
B.
Distance formula with coordinates in 1 and 2 dimensions
C.
Use the distance formula to verify whether segments are congruent
V. Areas
A.
Know formulas for squares, rectangles, parallelograms, circles, and triangles
B.
Use area formulas when doing volumes (areas of base of prisms, pyramids, etc.)
VI. Volumes
A.
Prisms and cylinders
B.
Pyramids and cones (including use of slant height)
C.
Spheres
Coordinate geometry and constructions are NOT included on this first test.
