Systems Engineer, May 2002 - December 2008
Grade Point Average: 9.26/10
EXPERIENCE
Computational Linguist at Actonomy, June 2015 - present
In this job my goal is to improve the matching between CV and Vacancies, making the
process of finding the candidates (and the other way around) for a particular job much
easier and accurate. In order to achieve it I use a variety of Information Retrieval and
Natural Language Processing techniques based on Machine Learning. The main tools I
work with to achieve results are Java, Scala, Python, Apache UIMA and Spark.
Since April 2016, I am working in a research project called ASIMOV. This project is carried
on by a consortium of 4 companies under the umbrella of iMinds (largest BE based
research institute). With a team of 7 researches, we focus on using machine learning and
NLP techniques to detect unseen concepts in free corpora and to organize automatically
these recognized concepts as an ontology. This is done in a multilingual context in order to
allow the technology to be used in a Pan-European environment.
Research Assistant at University of Massachusetts in Information Extraction and
Synthesis Laboratory (IESL), May 2014 - May 2015
I worked with Prof. Andrew McCallum conducting research in Machine Learning with
application in Natural Language Processing. I collaborate in the projects AI2
(http://allenai.org/) and The Materials Project (https://www.materialsproject.org/). My main
tasks include feature engineering, model training, analysis of semantic and syntactic
similarity of documents, and code implementation using Scala and Java programming
languages.
Software Engineer at MercadoLibre, Inc, January 2009 - June 2015
I worked in Checkout and Fraud Prevention projects. For developing, I used mainly Java
and Groovy/Grails development tools along with SQL to create and tune Oracle database
queries. I also participated in design and development of graph database in Neo4j, and
applied algorithm such as A* and Dijkstra to detect relations among fraudulent users.
Furthermore, I used data mining tools such as SPSS, PMML and Weka to design and
analyze classification and regression trees. Finally, I trained and tested machine learning
models applying algorithms based on decision trees, logistic regression and neural
networks.
