Using Smith’s Statistical Package Loading data 1. Go to File > Import Tab-delimited (not comma-delimited) 2. Select the file you want to load You can try to copy and paste data to Smith’s Statistical Package, but sometimes it might not work. Calculating mean, median, etc. Select Describing Data from the menu. Then select mean, variance to compute mean, variance, and standard deviation. Select median, quartiles for the 5-number summary. A window will pop up to ask you which variables to calculate. Select the appropriate variable. Graphing Select Describing Data from the menu. Then select histogram, box-plot, etc. A window will pop up to ask you which variable to calculate, and another window will ask you for some options. Select the appropriate variable and/or options. Caution: the y-axis of the histograms give a different kind of frequency (called density) than we use in class. Just ignore this. Use the frequency from the table instead. Caution: The box plots do not show outliers.
