Seeking agreement within the community on the significance of Luang Prabang’s cultural
heritage and developing a vision for cultural heritage tourism that supports community
objectives
Action:
UNESCO (Richard Engelhardt) will prepare a letter to the Governor of Luang Prabang briefly
outlining outcomes from international conference, importance for community to develop
common vision and agreement on various aspects of Luang Prabang cultural heritage.
Luang Prabang representatives to obtain support of Governor of process and resource
implications to implement strategies.
Timeframe needed:

2. Stakeholder Consultation
Plan a Field Trip of Cultural and Natural sites of significance in Luang Prabang, visiting
possibly temples, craft/tribal villages, natural sites, urban centre
Invite key local people as such as tourist operators, businessmen, elders in community, monks,
educators, staff from ministries.

3. Formation of Tourism Development Committee

4. Ongoing Work on Developing Tourism Development Vision/Plan
Following on after establishment of Committee, ongoing consultation, writing up results from
planning processes, development of vision documents/statements
