What can you get from being a

There is an impressive range of benefits available to you as a local
government employee and as part of your national and local terms and
conditions of employment, negotiated with the recognised trades
unions. For example:

 Flexible working – Many RBC staff currently work flexible patterns

There are also a number of benefits (which are not part of your
‘Ts&Cs’) that you can access merely by being an employee of Reading
Borough Council (access to external benefits does not imply any

 Staff Club – a social club for RBC employees that provides trips,
discounts, etc
 Corporate membership of the fitness centres at Reading Sport &
Leisure facilities – special rates for staff
 Bus to Work (salary sacrifice) Scheme – approx. 40% discount on
bus fares
 Discounted town centre car parking (Monday –Friday)
 Interest free season ticket loan for public transport or car park
season - minimum £250, minimum 6 months and maximum 12
 Interest free bicycle/scooter loan maximum £1,000, repayable
over a period up to 12 months.
 Cyclescheme: Hire a bicycle and safety equipment (maximum
£1,000) tax-free and make payments over 12 months.
 Car Club: Membership of Reading’s Car Club (Pay As You Go)
 Hexagon Discounts:
30% (daytime only) discount for RBC employees in the Café at the
Hexagon. This includes most food items, soft drinks and all hot
drinks (but does not include wrapped confectionery items including
chocolate bars and crisps; smoothies, mineral water and other bar
items and ice creams).
10% discount on selected shows throughout the year (details can
be obtained from the Box Office). Tickets have to be booked in
advance and there may be seat limitations.
 Your Reading Passport discounts/special prices on:

 Gardening courses & workshops; allotment rental
