Job Purpose
To deliver production schedule for your area at (or above) Company quality targets.
You will be fully accountable for the specified/required volumes for your area with
regard to the production plan.
To set up, run and control the technical and operational process in your area; to
coach/train less skilled employees in resolving process problems, in order to meet
quality and cost targets. You will ensure that you are correctly operating equipment
and processes whilst adhering to Company standards.
You will also support the basic maintenance of the area, carrying out specific tasks
as set by the Glaze Prep Area Leader to ensure quality and performance is achieved
to the required level.

Principle Duties
1
Maintain, invoke and ensure a high standard of housekeeping in the Colour
Making area and to look for opportunities to continuously improve.

Ensure that all Health, Safety and Environmental controls are applied and the
need to report any non compliances to the Area leader.

Attending all necessary and appropriate training and ensuring other team
members attend when appropriate.

Requirement to adjust colours after inspection by glaze/ stain additions and the
eventual dipping and firing for re-inspection.

To provide quality information for Area leaders/ management on glaze
productivity. The departmental objective is to improve on the results, year on
year.

Ensure that the agreed process controls that are stipulated by Area leaders/
management to manufacture glazes/ engobes and other ceramic materials
comply with the company quality standards.

To ensure that the equipment that is used within the processes is maintained to
a first class standard via support from the engineering team or Area leaders.
Some first line maintenance activities are performed in this area to ensure that a
positive equipment status is in place at all times.

Complete set measures, tests and records as required. The records can either
be electronic or paper based. They should be filed professionally and be easily
accessible to other departmental employees.

Labelling and the identification of products and materials shall be completed to
the agreed standards within the department.
10 Monthly or more frequent stocktaking is required. This shall be completed in both
a timely and accurate manner.
11 Required to control the biscuit stock for the trials and ultimate scheduling of the
colours.
12 The senior operator is required to assist in the provision of target tiles for
matching purposes and the need to highlight any issues or non conforming tiles.
13 Stain stock control should be completed in a timely manner to ensure that the
schedule can be completed.
14 Communication with other colour makers is required to be complete and
accurate. This is of particular importance during multiple shift activities. Out of
hours adjustments using the required paperwork should be completed before the
end of the shift.
15 Perform general basic maintenance on all equipment.
16 Determine faults and seek to resolve accordingly.
17 Undertake any other tasks as reasonably required by the Area Leader or
designated authority.

 Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) level in English and
Maths
 Qualification in Health and Safety in the workplace
Knowledge/Skills
 Good understanding of ceramic tile manufacture
 Ability to work both on own and in a small team
 Ability to work with minimal supervision
 Good mathematical and literacy skills and be able to
accurately record data and analyse it accordingly.
 PC software experience and good data inputting skills.
 Mechanical aptitude/understanding of basic mechanical
principles
 Ability to use a calculator for recipe correction
 Numerate with legible presentation of information.
 Experience of tile dipping and firing.


