Stroke
Epilepsy
Multiple Sclerosis
Neuro Epidemiology
Neurophysiology
There Are Two Major Categories
Of Stroke:
1. Ischemic (87%) and
2. Hemorrhagic (13%).
Epilepsy is a central nervous
system disorder (neurological
disorder) in which the nerve
cell activity in your brain is
disturbed, causing a seizure
during which you experience
abnormal behavior, symptoms
and sensations, including loss
of consciousness.
Multiple
Sclerosis,
also
known as MS, is a chronic
disease that attacks the
central nervous system, i.e.
the brain, spinal cord and
optic nerves. In severe cases
the
patient
becomes
paralyzed and/or blind, while
in milder cases there may be
numbness in the limbs.
The Neuro Epidemiology area provides
training in research methodology and
the epidemiology of neurological
diseases. Current research is focused on
the roles of diet, infections, and
environmental exposures in the etiology
of neurodegenerative diseases such as
multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease,
and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and
integrates biomarkers and genetic
factors. Doctoral students conduct
research
in
a
substantive
or
methodological
area
related
to
neuroepidemiology.
The Neurophysiology section give a extensive range of specialized
tests and counseling services necessary to the analysis and conduct
of neurological disorder and sleep disorders. Neurophysiology
includes 4 specialized areas of testing and handling:
The EEG lab (electroencephalography)
Intraoperative Monitoring
Sleep Disorders (sleep analysis)
Epilepsy Monitoring
