Household Chemicals
• EPA states that there are 80,000
Household Chemicals.
• Less than 2% have been tested.
• Toxins in homes account for 90% of all
poisonings each year.
• There is a call to a US poison control
center every 14 seconds.
Chlorine
• 1993 - American Public Health Association
urged manufacturers to phase out the use of
chlorine in consumer goods.
• Chlorine ranks first in industrial injuries and
deaths in the U.S.
• 2000 - U.S. poinson control centers reported
that chlorine bleach was implicated in injuries
to 18,863 children under the age of 6.
Indoor Air Pollution
• Every year, causes 1.6
million deaths.
• 1 death every 20 seconds.
• EPA says that pollutants
may be 2-5 times and
occasionally more than 100
times higher than outdoor
levels.
Personal Care Products
Of the 884 toxins used in personal care
products:
•
•
•
•
•
778 can cause acute toxicity
146 can cause tumors
218 can cause reproductive complications
314 can cause biological mutation
376 can cause skin and eye irritations
Propylene Glycol
Implicated in contact dermatitis, kidney damage and
liver abnormalities; can inhibit skin cell growth in
human tests and can damage cell membranes
causing rashes, dry skin and surface damage.
ACUTE EFFECTS: May be harmful by inhalation,
ingestion or skin absorbtion. May cause eye irritation,
skin irritation. Exposure can cause gastro-intestinal
disturbances, nausea, headache and vomiting,
central nervous system depression.
- Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or
Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
• SLS can be a mutagen. In sufficient amounts it is capable
of changing the information in genetic material found in
cells.
• SLS has been used in studies to induce mutations in
bacteria.
• SLS enters and maintains residual levels in the heart,
liver, lings and brain from skin contact.
• SLS denatures protein, impairs proper structural formation
of young eyes - damage permanent.

Vol. 2, No. 7, 1983
Common Household Chemicals Illness and Disease
“Of chemicals commonly found in homes,
150 have been linked to allergies, birth
defects, cancer, and psychological
abnormalities.”
- The Consumer Product Safety Commission
“The deadly chemical cocktail building up
in our bodies is causing us great harm,
manifesting itself in everything from
asthma to cancer.”
- Deirdre Imus, author of Green This! Greening
Your Cleaning
“Body Burden:
The Pollution in Newborns”
• Of the 413 chemicals tested, 287 chemicals
present in umbilical cords
• 217 were toxic to the brain
• 208 caused birth defects
• 134 known or suspected to cause cancer
• Traced back to mothers diet

The Story of the Thieves
Thieves
- Based on research about four
thieves in France who covered

rosemary, and other aromatics
while robbing plague victims.
-This proprietary essential oil
blend was university tested for
its cleansing abilities.
It is highly effective in
supporting the immune system
and good health.

Diffusing Thieves
Why can’t I just use bleach?
1.
Bleach is 3-6% sodium hypochlorite and 94-97%
water.
2.
When the sodium hypochlorite evaporates, it
leaves water in its place and allows mold
colonies to begin forming again in 24 hours or
less.
3.
Bleach can be highly toxic, and is believed by
some authorities to migrate to the thyroid
where it may replace iodine and may damage or
diminish thyroid function.
4.
Bleach does not kill mold spores in the air or on
porous surfaces.
