STEM CLUB LEADERSHIP TRAINING SUMMER CAMP
STEM Club Leadership Training Summer Camp is funded by the P&G Fund’s Higher Education Grant Program
and the College of Engineering at The University of Akron. It is designed to prepare ten (10) high school student leaders to start STEM Clubs or organize STEM-related activities in their home high schools.
The STEM Club is a one-week summer camp, from 9:00am to 3:30pm on June 6th through June 10th, 2016.
Each day, the campers will
 Attend interactive leadership training workshops.
 Work with engineering student leaders to learn how to manage student organizations.
 Meet with representatives from colleges, companies, Akron city and non-profit organizations.
 Learn to design and run STEM workshops.
 And enjoy fun time in the Game Room and Rec Center on campus.
At the end of the week, each camper, with help of mentors, will finish a strategy plan to start/run a STEM
Club at the home high school. STEM Clubs with the best strategy plans will be sponsored during the academic year.
Eligibility
 High school students who are in grade 10 and 11 in the 2015-2016 academic year are eligible to apply. Preferences will be re given to students from Akron Public Schools, North Canton High School, Canton McKinley High
School and Cleveland STEM High School.
 Complete an application form, get permission from parents/guardians and have one recommendation letter from
current/past teachers. Send the package to the contact below.
 Applications must be post-marked by April 22, 2016. You will be notified by email/phone call/mail if you are accepted. Enrollment is limited (10), so apply early!
Cost
 There is no cost for participating in the camp. Lunch and snacks will be provided. You would need to get your own
transportation to the campus.
