Cell Simile Poster Task: Your task is to design a simile between a plant or animal cell, and some other system you are familiar with. A simile is when you use something that is compared to something else usually using “like” or “as.” An example would be: A cell is like a school with all of the organelles in the cell working together like the parts of a school do so that it can run smoothly. Extra Information: You need to not only create a simile for the cell, but also have to have all of the organelles accounted for OR you can have individual items accounting for each organelle. You will choose a plant or animal cell, by using the opposite of what you are doing for your cell project. Your poster should have a title that provides a simile statement for the whole cell. You will need to have a drawing in color of your cell, and a drawing in color of the place you are comparing to the cell Your poster should be divided up similar to the example below Title Statement: A cell is like a school with all of the organelles in the cell working together like the parts of a school do so that it can run smoothly (Drawing of cell) The nucleus is the office because….. YOUR POSTER NEEDS TO BOTH BE LEGIBLE AND NEATLY PRESENTED Day 1 Write out rough draft of simile statements, finish any incomplete work as homework Day 2 Divide up poster space Write out title and title simile statement Teacher’s Initials:_____ (Once you have my initials you may get poster board!) You will receive 5 points for completion of this on time! Begin illustrating the cell and labeling organelles Day 3 Finish up cell illustrations and labels Day 4 Put your simile statements on your poster! Wrap up any other loose ends. Complete Simile statement illustration and labels If you are not finished in class you will need to come in before school tomorrow or after school today! Making A Poster: Cell Simile Student Name: ________________________________________ Class Period: ____________ Avg %: _____ Total Points: _____/_____ CATEGORY Use of Class Time (5 points) 1 point deducted for each √ Above & Beyond 100-94 Got It Getting There 93-84 83-77 Used time well during each class period. Focused on getting the project done. Received 0 √ for being off task. Used time well during each class period. Usually focused on getting the project done. Received 1 or 2 √ for being off task. Used some of the time well during each class period. There was some focus on getting the project done but occasionally distracted others. Received 3 or 4 √ for being off task. Did not use class time to focus on the project OR often distracted others. Received 5 or more √ for being off task. Student spent most of his or her time off task and did not complete the assignment All required plus additional organelles are represented through graphics, (2 per organellesimile and actual) (1 bonus point per extra organelle) 93-84 % of required organelles are represented through graphics 83-77% of required organelles are represented through graphics 77-70% of required organelles are represented through graphics 69% or below of required organelles are represented through graphics Student has successfully tied the functions of each organelle into a whole simile/simile (i.e. Comparing all organelles to a part of a factory) Student has successfully created a separate simile/simile for each organelle or has created a whole simile/simile for the cell with some problems. Student has created a separate simile/simile for each organelle, but one or two do not make sense. Student has a created a separate simile/simile for each organelle but many do not make sense or several are missing. Student’s simile statements are incomplete or not there Graphics/Writing are Graphics/Writing are neat and professional neat and poster looking. Poster contains a creative title contains a creative title that can be read from 6 feet away Graphics/Writing are readable. Title is present, but not creative. Graphics/Writing are difficult to read/sloppy. Title of the poster doesn’t make sense or is missing Graphics/Writing are illegible, or incomplete.
