What happened to Rome?? I’m confused…

Big Question: What happened to Rome?
Rome was divided into two different empires in hope to
manage it better and have more control.

Emperor Constantine decides that
he wants to move the Roman
Empire’s capital from the city of
Rome to Constantinople.

Constantinople is built upon an ancient city called Byzantium.

It’s location is between the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea.
o How does this help the Eastern Empire?

This location is in the middle of an important trade route between Asia
and Europe.

The Western part of the Roman Empire falls to many
different Germanic tribes.

Eastern Rome lived on…they survived and became
known as the Byzantine Empire because of the location
of the capital city on the old site of Byzantium.

The Byzantines based their culture on Roman, Greek,
and Christian ideas.
