JT First Shot Guide for Field Operators JT First Shot for Field Operators The JT First Shot Challenge was designed to help you market and capture a whole new demographic. Kids that are nine years and up can come out and play in a league designed just for them with gear designed just for them just like they do with soccer, baseball and football. Once the kids get used to coming out to the field and playing on a regular basis they will continue to do so. As the league grows so will your customer base and paintball. Marketing •
•
Flyers, post cards, social media and word of mouth o Flyers at the field and local paintball shop o Flyers to local schools, Churches, and youth organizations o Make sure that when you have birthday parties or rental groups with kids that you educate them and their parents about the league. Social media is a great way to get the word out o You can use a digital copy of your flyer and postcards as images and post them online as well as mailing it to your customer list o Once you start the league you can post pictures online of the event, showing kids and parents having fun. This will also spark interest Events The secret to running a great event is planning for the event. There are always going to be small problems that pop up but the better prepared you are the more successful you will be. Equipment •

JT SplatMaster Markers including spares o The spare markers are for when players break paint or if the gun malfunctions o Recommend that you have roughly 40% more markers then you need so if you have ten players you should probably have fourteen markers o This will keep you from having to stop the games to clean markers JT Goggles o Make sure that they are clean and that the lenses are safe o Make sure that the strap is in good condition so that they can stay on tight JT chest protector o Make sure they are clean o Vests are grey on one side, black on the other so you can use those to mark the teams with one team wearing all black and the other wearing all grey o Make sure the straps and buckles are in good working order JT SplatMaster paint o JT SplatMaster paint is made to be very fragile but like all paint once it gets hot or humid it gets bouncy so we recommend keeping it in the shade or in a ice chest 2 JT First Shot for Field Operators •

o If you’re playing in cold conditions make sure the paint is kept out of the cold until you play Speed load tubes o Recommend three tubes per marker and a couple in the start station for loading markers between games Towels to clean hits off in the pits and to clean goggles o Goggle cleaner o Paper towels Stop watches are used to run the time on the matches o Points are three minutes long, although very rarely do points run that long o If time runs out during a point and no point is scored, then the point is over and no one scores. The teams load up again and replay the point until a point is scored Field A JT First Shot match can be played at any paintball field there are no special designs required. The field should be small though, we recommend it not be larger than 100 feet long and 50 feet wide this helps the new players know where everyone is on the field and helps the referees ensure safety. •
Field should have the following o Two identical start stations o Players touch their markers on the station to begin the matches and hang the flags on the start stations to win points. The stations should be opposite to each other and on the back boundary line o Boundary line must clearly mark the outline of the field o Players cannot go out of bounds during game play without being eliminated o Flag station This is where the flag is hung IF a player is eliminated with the flag you simply re-‐hang the flag unless there is a player close enough that can grab the flag from the eliminated player o Need to make a sight plan that they can follow o Bunkers The bunkers on the field can be made of anything that paint won’t shoot through Air ball bunkers are ideal because of the bright color and ease of clean up You can find a recommended layout of fields that we have used in the past on our web site www.JTFirstShot.com o Staging area can simply be a set of easy up tents if you don’t have an existing staging area if yours is too far from the field. Tables and chairs for the players to use between games are also important parts of the staging area The staging area is used for teams that are going to play next or just played This is where they get ready to play clean off hits and talk strategy 3 JT First Shot for Field Operators •
Viewing area o This area is for parents and is recommended because the more the parents are involved the more likely they are to support the league, although parental participation is not required. Viewing area should be along one side of the field If you don’t have netting parents simply have to wear a mask to watch but remember they will have to be reminded to keep their goggles on Game play •

The first team to score two points wins that match o A team scores a point only when they hang the flag on the opposing teams start station within the three minutes allowed for that point. o If time runs out no point is scored o When a player hangs the flag they are checked to make sure they were not marked during game play. If the player that hangs the flag is clean the point is good. If a player hangs a flag and has a hit on them the flag is re-‐hung. If there are no more players to re-‐hang the flag then the point is over and must be replayed. If there are players left alive then they can grab the flag from the flag station and re-‐hang it as long as they do so within the allotted time. o A player is eliminated when they are hit by a paintball. If a player is shot by their own team they are still eliminated If a player is shot but the ball bounces off they are eliminated If a referee sees a player hit and the ball bounces off, the player is eliminated After each point the team regroups at the start station re-‐loads their marker and prepares for the next point. Once a team scores two points that match is over and players go to the staging area to wait for their next match Teams can use the time between their matches to get ready for the next match Bracketing o Teams should play a total of four matches per day o Teams may play more if the schedule requires them to do so o Our goal is to give the participants the best time possible a big part of this is trying to make the teams as evenly matched as possible o Example of a ten team match 10 teams get broken into 2 divisions of 5 teams Division 1 would be the 5 strongest teams division 2 would be the other teams Everyone within the division plays the other teams in their division Division 1 First match 1v2 Second match 3v4 Third match 2v5 Fourth match 3v1 Fifth match 4v5 Sixth match 2v4 4 JT First Shot for Field Operators •

Seventh match 3v5 Eighth match 1v4 Ninth match 3v2 Tenth match 1v5 For a division of 5 teams to play everyone in their division, which would be the other 4 teams we will have to run 10 matches. Keep in mind, this is an example, you may have to have some teams play more games based on total team count. Keys for success o Getting the teams o Running a great event o Following up with parents o Promoting the players and the league through social media Pit falls o Safety has to be a priority, we must make the parents feel safe about having their children compete in the league o We aren’t marketing to the kids, we are marketing to the parents so we have to really show them how seriously we take safety o Not preparing gear Once something goes wrong it’s hard to keep things running smoothly. So give yourself a head start and get the gear in order ahead of time o Not having field set up properly This is much easier to do before the event so take your time and get it set up, we also suggest you play on it a few times before the event o Make sure all components of the event are in good working order o Not getting enough teams This happens to everyone who runs events. If this happens just change up the divisions or teams so that everyone plays and has a good time What’s the secret to running a successful event? No matter what happens, make the customer happy. We can’t make everyone happy all the time but we want him or her to know that we will do whatever we can to try and make him or her happy! 5 JT First Shot for Field Operators Need to make a score sheet Can we make a bracket outline for them? Then they would just have to plug in the team name and how many teams and it figures the bracketing for them JT First Shot Score Sheet Team name Winning Team Match time Sign up form for fields: Team name Player’s names Contact person Coach Match Score name Team score Winning 6
