WIND
*The movement of air caused by differences in air pressure.
The greater the difference the faster the wind moves.
*Differences in air pressure are generally caused by the
unequal heating of the Earth.
PRESSURE
*At the Equator more direct sunlight is received so the warm
air being less dense rises creating low pressure. This air flows
towards the Poles.
'---./'
*At the Poles the air is colder more dense so it sinks towards
the Equator creating high pressure.
PRESSURE BELTS
*Bands of high and low pressure found every 30° of latitude.
These pressure belts separate convection cells which are large
circular patterns of air caused by warm air rising and cool air
sinking.
CORIOLIS EFFECT
*The apparent curving of the path of a moving object from the
otherwise straight path due to the Earth's rotation.
<c:>
*In the Northern Hemisphere winds traveling North curve to
the East, and winds traveling South curve to the West.
