Greece is located on what continent? Europe
What is the capital of Greece? Athens
Who could vote in ancient Greece? Only men
Who created the first democracy? The Greeks
How often are the Olympics played? Every 4 years
What is the highest medal an Olympic athlete can earn? A gold medal
What did the winner of the Greek Olympics win? A crown made of laurel leaves
What famous building was the Supreme Court copied after? The Parthenon
What is a representative democracy? When someone you elect votes for you?
What is a direct democracy? When everyone votes
What athletic event started in Greece and is still held today? The Olympics
Short answer:
Why does the United States not use a direct democracy? There are too many people.
Explain the effect of ancient Greece on our modern day democracy. We both have three levels of
government and the people elect leaders, not kings.
Children will also be required to read an example of a direct democracy and an example of a
representative democracy and select the correct one.
