Childhood
• Born in 1564, the precise date
is unknown
• He was John and Mary
Shakespeare's oldest surviving
child; their first two children,
both girls, did not live beyond
infancy.
• He died in 1616.
School life
• Shakespeare probably began
his education at the age of six
or seven at the Stratford
grammar school, which is still
standing only a short distance
from his house on Henley
Street and is in the care of
the Shakespeare Birthplace
Trust.

• Was an English poet,
playwright, and actor, widely
regarded as the
greatest writer in the English
language and the world's preeminent dramatist. He is often
called England's national poet.
