Mission Statement:
In the Pink is a program of Saint Michael’s Medical Center Inc. The mission is to eradicate cancer as a life threatening disease in our community: to
foster the values of love compassion, justice, and reverence for life and to support services which improve or maintain quality of life for all.
About the program:
We provide education, outreach, screening and treatment to free or low cost screenings for women and men that qualify In The Pink Cancer Early
Detection and Education Program promotes healthy behavior in the underserved population in the Essex County. In The Pink’s primary objective is
to: increase the proportion of age-appropriate men and women who are screened for Breast, Cervical, Colorectal and Prostate Cancers by:
 Providing free screening and follow-up services to uninsured men and women.
 Reaching out to engage high-risk men and women for screening services
 Educating the public about the importance of cancer screening
 Increase knowledge of cancer screening guidelines among health professionals.
 Providing comprehensive navigation/ case management services and linkages to community cancer resources.
 Providing Presumptive eligibility/Medicaid to eligible individual diagnosed with breast and or cervical cancer.
In The Pink was established in 1999 with funds from the Susan G. Komen For the Cure North Jersey Affiliate. In 2001 the Avon Breast Care Fund®,
now Avon BHOP, became a partner in supporting the program. Due to increase in eligible participants and need, accessibility and the quality of care,
the program became a lead agency for the NJ Department of Health - New Jersey Cancer Early Detection and Education Program (NJCEED.). Since
then, our funding sources have expanded, now supported by Goals for Life ®. Their generosity lends to greater possibilities for more individuals to
be screened and get treatment for breast cancer.
In The Pink has…
 Served over 65,000 women.
 Served over 5,000 men.
 Provided more than 45,000 screening test.
 Arranged for or provided coverage for more than 12,000 diagnostic procedures for women with abnormal screening results and over 2,500
screening tests for men.
 Served as a community health service partner to recruit underserved women and men for screening, diagnosis and treatment through
outreaching.
 Developed and implemented innovative strategies to overcome barriers to screening.
 Developed partnerships with key stakeholders to promote breast, cervical, Colorectal and Prostate cancer screening.
 Provided access to care for more individual diagnosed with cancer.
