Jane Addams Hull-House Museum
Type: Extra Help, Full Time, Temporary (37.5 hrs per week)
Start Date: Immediately

The Programming Coordinator at the Hull-House Museum will play a vital
role in communicating the history of the Hull-House Settlement and its
relationship to contemporary issues of civic engagement and social justice
by implementing and developing public and education programs for the
UIC community, Chicago area community groups, and the general public.
Working closely with the Director, the Programming Coordinator will
organize programs that capitalize on the rich, interdisciplinary context of
the Hull-House Museum and help to build long-term relationships locally,
nationally, and internationally. In all activities, the position will collaborate
with other staff to ensure that public programs align with the museum’s
goals. Areas of responsibility include coordinating event logistics and
rentals with museum staff, organizing social media, community outreach,
implementing existing programs, and developing new programs in
coordination with the museum’s long-term plans. Ability to interface with
the public and strong writing and public speaking skills are essential to this
position. This position will require working several evenings and weekend
hours.
Job Responsibilities
Event Coordination & Implementation: Coordinate planning, preparation,
and implementation of the recurring and special programs that link the
history of Hull-House Settlement to contemporary civic engagement and
social justice issues.
Coordinate, track, organize, staff and analyze all space rentals.
Community Outreach: Work with museum staff to help build
relationships with UIC units and local community groups and civic
organizations that focus on social justice issues to plan and implement
museum projects and activities.
Program Publicity: Coordinate and prepare all social media,
digital/virtual campaigns or projects, website, weekly newsletters, e-blasts,
flyers, electronic announcements, advertisements, program descriptions
and press releases to market programs and attract new audiences.
Grant Writing: Assist in researching grants and grant writing, as needed,
to federal, local, corporate and private foundations for support for
programs by composing program description, participation data and other
information and data.
Evaluations: Coordinate and develop program evaluations and reports for
all museum program activities.
Supervision: Train, supervise and schedule tasks for visitor services staff,
graduate student employees, facilities assistants, and/or interns working on
program activities.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience
Minimum Requirements:
high school graduation or equivalent two -­‐ three years experience with implementing or coordinating public programs and social media four years of experience in public contact with an agency or organization that is oriented toward community activities Preferred qualifications:
Bachelors degree in History, Public History, Education, Museum Studies,
Social Work, or related discipline required. Master's degree preferred.
Experience with community collaboration among diverse audiences, and/or
experience with youth work and community organizing preferred. Ability
to work with and develop programming for diverse populations,
demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to socio-ethnic and cultural
communication style.
Knowledge of current standards in public programming at cultural
institutions; knowledge of standards and innovative methodologies for
informal education; knowledge of standard and innovative methods of
program evaluation.
Demonstrated public presentation skills. Able to adapt
presentations/content for across age groups and populations. Strong
interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Grant writing
skills.
Desire to work collaboratively with staff from other departments.
Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
