The most respected universities in Sri Lanka would be:
•
University of Colombo
•
University of Peradeniya
•
University of Moratuwa
Other universities can be considered for entry to Masters programmes, but the best students attend the above three universities.
There are also a wide range of universities/institutions offering HNDs and Degrees affiliated to British Universities. Please ask the International Office for a copy of the spreadsheet “ Sri
Lankan UK Course Providors” for an extensive list.
There are 12 full universities in Sri Lanka (including the Open University) and 10 institutes (5 at undergraduate level and 5 postgraduate). Additionally, Acts of Parliament have established the
Buddhasravaka Dharmapitiya and the Pali and Buddhist University as higher education institutes for the study of Buddhism, related languages and cultural subjects.
Undergraduate university education is free, but less than 1.5% of school leavers are able to get in to full time undergraduate courses, due to competition.
