The italians think a new age had happened
between the 14th century and the 17th
century.

Artists of northern Europe had a different approach in portraying realistic
artwork
European artists painted illustrations for books and wooden panels for
altarpieces
The artist, Jan Van Eyck, was one of the first to perfect the technique of
oil painting
o He could create striking realism in fine details with oil painting
o Unlike the italians, he did not use perspective in his paintings
● Albrecht Durer was very affected by the italians way of using perspective
