Hypothesis formation
First a scientist develops a hypothesis - a tentative explanation – into what he or she
believes to be the truth.
2. The next step involves the development of a method for testing this hypothesis.
3. The research is then conducted using the detailed method chosen and the data is then
analyzed.
4. The findings are reported to the scientific community and future directions are
determined.
1.
What are you trying to accomplish by collecting this data for the various regions.
What are the elements of your hypothesis? (what are you trying to do and what data are you going to
use)
What do each of the elements mean?
What and when was it counted?
If the rate is high or low, what does that tell you?
What is the most efficient way (or the way you did it) to collect the data?
What sources did you use?
Which sub regions/countries seem the most/least developed? (You should probably use a map for that)
Are there patterns? (coastal/random/linear/clustered)
How should display your data and report your findings?
Maps/graphs and what they mean
