Try clicking on “Roman Culture,” for example, to browse a variety of topics. Gale World History Collection This database is devoted to world history resources. Try entering “Ancient Rome” in the subject guide search. Web sites Encyclopedia Mythica: Roman Mythology This is an online encyclopedia of mythology and folklore that contains over 6,000 definitions of gods and goddesses, supernatural beings, and legendary creatures from all over the world. It is searchable by region or type, and includes illustrations, pronunciation keys, and genealogical information. The site includes annotated links to related online resources. Rome: From Republic to Empire Rome’s history is highlighted in this Web site. It provides information and images about government, clothing, slavery, social classes, gladiator games, chariot racing, and much more. Timeline of Art History Special Topics: Greek and Roman Art in the Ancient World This site, created by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, accesses images of Roman coins, vases, sculptures, and more. Classical Myth: The Ancient Sources This site links to images and text about the major figures of Greek and Roman mythology. They are indexed by Greek names, and cross-referenced to the Roman names. Many of the illustrations are from ancient sources. You can also access images and information about objects that are associated with the Gods. Windows to the Universe: Mythology Almost every culture has associated objects in the sky, the Earth, and aspects of their physical world with gods and goddesses.
