Writing Learner Objectives
Learner Objectives—Definition
A learner objective is a statement that communicates what the learners will be expected
to do (or what new capability they should possess) when they have completed
a program.
Purposes
 To determine what specific type of learning is to take place
 To support marketing the program
 To assist in evaluating the program
 To focus the presenter on the important aspects of the program
The ABCDs of Well-stated Objectives
Audience:
Behavior:
Focus on what the attendee is doing, not on what the presenter is doing.
Use a verb to describe what the attendees should know, remember, feel
and do by the end of the program.
Conditions: Describe the conditions under which performance will be observed.
Degree:
Indicate the standard, or criterion by which acceptable performance will be
evaluate.
